Gunmen kill residents in Plateau attack, curfew imposed in Jos North

Several residents have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a community in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack, which occurred around 8pm on Sunday at a popular bar, saw unidentified armed men—suspected to be cultists—shoot sporadically at residents. At least 12 people were confirmed dead, while many others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

In response, the state government imposed a 48-hour curfew across Jos North to contain the situation and prevent further violence.

Joyce Lohya Ramnap described the incident as a tragic security breach, noting that the curfew took effect from midnight on March 29 and will run until April 1, 2026.

The government, under Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, condemned the attack and assured residents that security agencies are working to apprehend those responsible.

Security forces, including troops of Operation Enduring Peace, have been deployed to the area. They have since cordoned off major access routes and ordered residents to remain indoors while search operations are ongoing.

Authorities have urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and support investigations by providing useful information to security agencies.
