The Ekiti state government through the Directorate of Citizens Rights of the Ministry of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Chef Dammy’s pastor, Jeremiah Adegoke, and the Ekiti State Police Command over her alleged arrest and infringement of her rights.
The suit, filed by the Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) of the Ministry of Justice, is seeking N10 million in damages on behalf of Damilola Adeparusi popularly known as Chef Dammy, who rose to fame after attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest hours of cooking.
The controversy between Chef Dammy and her pastor began in October when she raised concerns about alleged threats and intimidation from individuals she described as “people of God” and her pastor.
Last week, Chef Dammy was reportedly arrested by the police following an alleged petition filed against her by Adegoke.
The lawsuit alleges that Adegoke and the police have infringed on Chef Dammy’s fundamental human rights by harassing, molesting, threatening to arrest, and intimidating her.
The DCR is also seeking a restraining order to prevent Adegoke and the police from re-arresting Chef Dammy.
The lawsuit is the latest development in a long-running dispute between Chef Dammy and her pastor.
In October, Chef Dammy accused Adegoke of trying to control her life and finances. She also claimed that he had threatened to excommunicate her from the church if she did not comply with his demands.
Adegoke has denied all of Chef Dammy’s allegations.
The lawsuit is expected to be heard in court in the coming weeks.
