Adamu Isah, convicted for stealing was on Wednesday, ordered by the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, to receive eight strokes of the cane.
Isah, who was arrested after he was caught on May 13, attempting to escape with 10 live chickens, he and his cohorts (at large), stole from a poultry farm.
The culprit was charged by the police with a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.
Isah who pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him, promised to be of good behaviour and begged the court to have mercy on him.
Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, had earlier, told the court that Sani Rabiu reported the crime at the Gabasawa Police Station sometimes in May.
He said the defendant and two others (at large) conspired and stole 10 live chickens from a poultry located somewhere in Kawo, Kaduna State.
The prosecutor further said the defendant was caught, trying to escape with the chickens in a bag, while his cohorts, who are still at large escaped.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 308, 233 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
Delivering judgement, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, ordered the culprit be given eight strokes of the cane.
The Magistrate further warned the culprit to desist from engaging in criminal acts and be of good behaviour going forward.
