Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, has been absolved of murder allegation by the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Musa Abdullahi-Lawan.

The Attorney General, while speaking to newsmen in Kano on Thursday, said Ado-Doguwa was absolved of the allegations because the ministry could not prove its allegations of criminal conspiracy, mischief by threatening with fire arm, and culpable homicide, against the accused.

He further said the statements of those that implicated the lawmaker were full of contradictions and that there are no fact or medical evidence to prove the death of the victims.

Abdullahi-Lawan statement reads: “We cannot find sufficient evidence to link Doguwa with the said offences, considering that we are faced with so much inculpatory and exculpatory evidence for and against him.

“The law is clear that the allegations that Doguwa killed people cannot be substantiated.

“We are variably guided by the findings of the investigations of the Police as contained in the case diary sent from the FCID devoid of sentiments, fear or favour.

Abdullahi-Lawan clarified that the pistol and 30 rounds of live ammunition recovered from the second and third suspects who were both aides to the lawmaker did not show they were used to commit the crime.

He further noted that ballistic expert investigation reveals that the ammunition collected from Doguwa’s aides were found intact.

The Attorney General said:

“Some of the witnesses said Doguwa carried a Dane gun while some said it was a pistol.

“No bullet shell was recovered at the scene, only one knife, cutlass and charm.”

Concluding, Abdullahi-Lawan said the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the ultimate dispensation of justice, equity and fairness irrespective of who it favours.

Doguwa, who ran under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was accused of burning the secretariat of the New Nigeria People Party (NNNP) and killing six people in post election violence.

He was subsequently arrested and arraigned before a Senior Magistrate on March 1 for alleged murder.

The lawmaker who was detained, was later admitted to a N500 million bail by a Federal High Court, Kano, on March 6.
