Idris Baba Hassan has been jailed after he was handed a two-year prison term by a Minna Chief Magistrate Court 1 located in Niger State, for allegedly impersonating Usman Mohammed Jankoli, secretary of the National Assembly and State Assembly Elections Tribunal, NAEPT, Minna.
According to allegations, Hassan from the Kusfa region, Suleja LG, falsely demanded money from plaintiffs whose cases were being heard by the tribunal.
He was apprehended by secret agents assigned to the Tribunal and arraigned at the Magistrate Court 1 on Thursday by Abdulmalik Sani.
It was also gathered that the impersonator called and demanded appreciation from ignorant petitioners using his phone number 08181810017.
The defendant was charged with one count of impersonating and violating Section 132 of Niger State’s penal code.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant was nabbed in July 2023 while posing as the secretary of Niger State (NAEPT) in Minna and collecting money from litigants.
When the allegation was read by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Abubakar, Baba Hassan pled guilty and was sentenced to two years in jail or a N100,000 fine.
