Following Elon Musk’s takeover of ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, the social networking company cut more than half of its personnel, but according to ‘X’ CEO, Linda Yaccarino, it has begun recruiting again.
In an interview with CNBC on Thursday, Yaccarino said as she comes in, the focus shifts from cost containment to growth. And growth entails recruiting.
She noted that the ‘X’ has not listed any open positions on the company’s careers webpage or its LinkedIn page.
The former head of advertising at NBCUniversal, who joined X earlier this year, stated that the company’s operational run rate is almost breaking even.
She further said that some of the advertisers who had gone were already coming back to the microblogging site and that the company’s relationship with advertisers, which had apparently deteriorated since Musk seized control of Twitter, was on the mend.
Commenting on how the company’s relationship with advertisers might be affected by the layoffs, the CEO said: “We’re a company that has gone from 8,000 people and has gone through a very necessary cost-discipline exercise to about 1,500 people so it makes sense that there wouldn’t be some type of impact of presence with these people.”
Also speaking on her working relationship with Musk, Yaccarino said he grants her “autonomy”, adding that their “roles are very clear” as Musk works on product and technology while she concentrates on “everything else.”
Prior to Yaccarino’s hiring in June, Musk, via a large purge at the organisation formerly known as Twitter, had demanded that staff members either commit to working “hardcore” hours or quit the organisation.
In recent times, Musk seemed to partially reverse his cost-cutting initiatives.
Speaking to CNBC’s David Faber in May, Musk said, “There’s no question that some of the people who were let go probably shouldn’t have been let go because we simply did not have the time to figure it out. We had to make widespread cuts to get the run rate under control.”
Musk remarked, adding that at some point, the organisation might even try to rehire some of the individuals they had fired.
