The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, urging Nigerians to allow the president to complete what he described as his “good work.”

The monarch spoke on Tuesday when the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), led by its Director-General, Abdulaziz Yari, visited the Benin Palace to seek his support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The delegation included Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; former Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko; and former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, among others.

Yari conveyed Tinubu’s greetings to the monarch and appealed for his support for the president’s re-election. He cited the reduction in food prices, exchange-rate stability and construction of inter-regional roads among the administration’s achievements.

Responding, Oba Ewuare II thanked Tinubu for the warm reception he received during his visit to the State House in Abuja and welcomed the campaign council’s visit to the palace.

The monarch said Tinubu deserved another term based on his assessment of the president’s performance.

“For somebody who is doing well, it is our prayer that he gets a renewed mandate,” the Oba said.

He also used the Pidgin expression, “As e dey pain them, e dey sweet us,” to emphasise his position.

Citing John 8:7, the monarch urged critics of the administration to allow the president to continue his work.

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,” he said.

The Oba added: “If one is doing well, why not join hands with the president to do what he is doing well? Let President Tinubu finish the good work.”

He also urged opposition parties to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, while noting that not everyone could become president of Nigeria.
