The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on behalf of the federal government has warned that 19 states and 56 communities are likely to witness flooding within the month
Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and 16 other states are among those at risk.
According to Ibrahim Farinloye, who is the Federal agency’s Lagos Territorial Coordinator, the states and communities that would be affected are: Delta State (Aboh), Ekiti (Ado-Ekiti), Ondo (Akure, Idanre, Ifon, Iju Itaogbolu, Ogbese, Owo, Owena, Ondo).
Others included: Lagos State (Apapa, Badagry, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Ojo, Surulere); Anambra (Atani); Ogun (Ifo, Ota, Sagamu); Nasarawa (Lafia, Wamba); and Cross River (Ikom, Ogoja). This was included in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
The coordinator further listed more states with likely floods as Bauchi (Jamaare, Misau, Azare, Itas, Kafin Madaki, Kari, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa, Katagum); Jigawa (Hadejia, Miga); Osun (Ilesa, Osogbo); and Kwara (Kosubosu).
The remaining he stated are: Zamfara State (Anka, Bungudu, Gusau); Sokoto (Goronyo); Adamawa (Numan, Shelleng); Taraba (Serti); Benue (Ito, Katsina-Ala, Vandeikya); Imo (Oguta, Orlu); and Abia (Ugba).
Meanwhile, motorists and commuters using the busy Bauchi-Gombe road, linking the Northeast states, have raised alarms over the collapse of the Kalajanga Bridge at Bara Village in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said residents reported the collapse on Saturday and have asked the government to come to their aid.
