The police in Abia state and family members of a victim allegedly sodomised by a radio presenter simply identified as Chidozie, has confirmed the arrest of the suspect by the state Police.
Speaking on the incident on Saturday, the Abia State Police said the suspect, who committed the crime in December, was arrested January 1, following a report from the victims family.
The police further revealed that the victim’s family reported that the presenter allegedly had forceful and unlawful carnal knowledge of their 15-year-old son, in the Obingwa area of the state.
A statement issued by Maureen Chinaka, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirming the incident states:
“Mr Chigozie was accused of engaging in unlawful carnal knowledge with a minor (names withheld).
“The 37-year-old suspect was arrested same day at his residence somewhere around Eastern Ngwa by operatives from Eastern Ngwa division, where he is currently being detained.
“Discreet Investigation is ongoing, and the matter will be charged to court.”
A family source who confirmed that the incident was reported to the police by the victim father said the suspect threatened to kill the victim, if he dares speak out.
The family source said: “He is a resident here but not an employee of any radio station but operates as a freelance journalist in radio stations within Aba.
“After the incident which happened December 31, our son reported to his father, who promptly lodged a complaint at the Eastern Ngwa Police Station, leading to Chigozie’s arrest.
“Our 15-year-old son told us Chigozie took him to a place around a hotel in Aba and gave him bread to eat, which he refused.
“He said Chigozie slapped him, and he fell on the bed and slept off, but woke up in the morning with pain in his anus.
“When our son asked the man what he did to him, Chigozie threatened to kill him if he told anyone what happened.”
