On Saturday morning, a section of a two-storey residential apartment collapsed in Abuja, trapping several people in the rubble.
The building, located beside the popular Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was formerly a hotel, Al-Hilal, then a hospital, and most recently, a residential apartment.
Emergency responders and security personnel were on the scene, but rescue efforts were hampered due to the delayed arrival of cranes needed for the operation, which had not yet arrived by 8:45 am, nearly two hours after the incident.
Two individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others managed to escape on their own.
One escapee, who preferred to remain anonymous, mentioned that upon waking up around 7 am and stepping outside, she heard cracking sounds and immediately ran out of the building.
