The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised it’s member and former governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu to divert the funds he has earmarked for celebrating his cheiftancy title into worthy causes in Odogbolu.
In a congratulatory message signed on Thursday by it’s sprokesperson, Austin Oniyokor, the party said while congratulating Adebututu on his milestone, the motive behind recent acquisition of numerous chieftaincy titles across the state may be less than noble.
The statement in full:
RE: ASIWAJU OF ODOGBOLU CHIEFTAINCY TITLE
The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the able leadership of Hon. Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, Ph.D hereby congratulates the good people of Odogbolu and our esteemed royal father, the Alaye of Odogbolu, Oba Adedeji Olusegun Onagoruwa, for the conferment of the title of Asiwaju of Odogbolu on one of our members, Hon. Ladi Adebutu.
While we do not intend to belittle the significance of the chieftaincy title, we are concerned about the recipient’s intention and the timing. Knowing Hon. Ladi Adebutu to be someone who never makes or receives any offers without selfish intentions, we are tempted to believe that the intention and timing of this title are politically-motivated.
In the last eight months or so, Hon. Ladi Adebutu has attempted to claim more than four different towns in Ogun Central and West to pursue his 2027 gubernatorial ambition under the pretence that his great-grandfather traded along those routes before setting for Odogbolu his maternal home.
As a responsible people-centred political party, we would have advised that the millions of naira he is spending to slaughter cows, pigs and procure alcohols to celebrate the chieftaincy title would have better served the good people of Odogbolu if he were to emulate his father’s philanthropic gesture by renovating or constructing some block of class rooms or maternity wards in Odogbolu instead of going to witness Baba’s legacies. His popular retort is: “it is my father’s money. It is not my fault that their father is not rich…”
That said, we congratulate the Alaye of Odogbolu, Oba Adedeji Olusoji Onagoruwa, the good people of Odogbolu and our member, the recipient of today’s chieftaincy title, Hon. Ladi Adebutu. We hope that he will continue to identify with Odogbolu whether or not he realises his forlorn ambition.
