The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has felicitated with the people of the state and all Nigerians as they join the rest of the world in celebrating the Christmas season.
A statement issued in Abeokuta by the Publicity Secretary, Austin Oniyokor, on Tuesday, quoted the State Chairman, Dr. (Hon.) Sikirulai Ogundele as saying the party rejoices with the people for witnessing another Christmas in spite of the prevailing economic situation.
The party noted that since Jesus Christ is the reason for the season, all Christians should endeavour to show love, empathy and perseverance as exemplified by Him, adding that “these are the virtues that can see us through the peculiar times that we have found ourselves”.
The statement reads in part, “This season also affords an opportunity to urge our people to remain steadfast in the struggle for the liberation of our party from the vice-like-grip of an individual and return it to the people.
“That is the major plank of the all-inclusive administration that we promised to run when the new State Executive Committee (Exco) came on board last September. We are irrevocably committed to this onerous task.
“Sooner than later, those holding the party by its jugular because of their selfish and pecuniary interests will soon be confined to where they belong. Our party, and indeed our beloved state, is not for sale to anyone; much less a set of gamblers.
“With an unbreakable unity, unbendable resilience and unshakable faith in God, we shall see the end of the mercantile and perpetual aspirants who parade themselves as party leaders. They know their time is almost up; hence, their desperation. But, it is only a matter of time before they are confined to the dustbin of history. Then, it will be a new dawn for our beloved party and state. Let’s be steadfast and keep hope alive!”
