President Bola Tinubu has praised the National Assembly for its swift approval of the state of emergency proclamation in Rivers State.
The President’s commendation comes after the National Assembly ratified the proclamation, which was declared due to the prolonged political crisis that has paralyzed governance in the state and threatened national economic security for over 15 months.
In a statement on Thursday, President Tinubu acknowledged the National Assembly’s leadership, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, for prioritizing the security and welfare of Rivers State people above partisan interests.
He also appreciated the lawmakers’ diligent review of classified security briefings, highlighting the urgent need for intervention to prevent further escalation.
The President reaffirmed that the six-month emergency will enable the newly appointed Sole Administrator to stabilize Rivers State, address systemic breakdowns, and facilitate dialogue among conflicting parties.
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with the National Assembly to advance peace, economic resilience, and equitable development across Nigeria.
