Lagos Police announce total restriction of vehicular movement for local govt election

In a critical move ahead of the upcoming Lagos Local Government Elections, the Lagos State Police Command has declared a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state, effective from 3 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, until 3 PM on the same day. The ban extends to all roads and waterways within the state jurisdiction, aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process.

The police have outlined several key details regarding the restriction. Armed escorts and security personnel are prohibited from operating in the area, and the use of sirens and covered number plates has been outright banned. This measure applies to all vehicles, including those belonging to quasi-security outfits and state security agencies, as no state security agency is authorized to participate in the election security operations under the Electoral Act.

However, there will be exemptions for essential services, including medical emergency responders and accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). This group also includes accredited election observers and media practitioners covering the elections, who must possess identification tags certified by LASIEC.

The police command has issued a stern warning to miscreants, hoodlums, and thugs, urging them to steer clear of polling units, collations centers, and other designated electoral locations during the election period.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. The police can be reached via designated emergency numbers: 08063299264 or 08065154338.

This initiative is part of the Lagos State Police Command’s efforts to maintain peace and order during the electoral process, ensuring that the elections are conducted freely and fairly.
