The Super Falcons of Nigeria have arrived in the country after winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The team landed with the trophy at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja around 2:10 pm on Monday.
On Saturday, the Falcons produced a dramatic 3-2 victory over Morocco to secure the continental crown for the 10th time. Jennifer Echegini scored the all-important winning goal as the Super Falcons came back from two goals down to claim victory in the final.
An open-bus parade is planned around the capital city to celebrate the team and showcase their newly won trophy. The parade route will take the players through Airport Road, the Berger junction, the Maitama and Wuse Market areas, and finally to the Presidential Villa.
President Bola Tinubu will host the players and officials after the parade concludes. The Falcons’ triumph in Morocco garnered numerous accolades, with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade named the player of the tournament. Ajibade, alongside Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, was also selected for the tournament’s best eleven.
