In a major move set to reshape Nigeria’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) landscape, The Coca-Cola Company has announced the sale of CHI Limited—owners of the Chivita and Hollandia brands—to UAC of Nigeria Plc.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Zainab Obagun, Head of Public Affairs and Communications at CHI Limited, on Wednesday in Lagos.
CHI Limited is a dominant force in Nigeria’s beverage and dairy market, with a robust portfolio that includes fruit juices, nectars, still drinks, dairy products, and snacks. Its Hollandia brand is a leader in the evaporated milk and drinking yoghurt categories, while Chivita is widely recognised for its dominance in the fruit juice sector.
UAC of Nigeria Plc, a diversified holding company, focuses on domestic manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of top consumer brands across Africa. The acquisition marks a strategic expansion of UAC’s footprint in the beverage and dairy market.
According to the statement, the transaction is still subject to regulatory approvals. It aligns with Coca-Cola’s broader global strategy of adopting a leaner, asset-light model—focusing investment and resources on core, high-growth brands.
“As a company with a strong footprint in Africa, we are deeply committed to the continent’s growth,” said Fola Aiyesimoju, Group Managing Director of UAC. “This acquisition offers an exciting opportunity to build on CHI’s legacy of innovation and excellence. We look forward to working with the CHI team to support the next phase of its growth.”
Eelco Weber, Managing Director of CHI Ltd., commended the company’s workforce and expressed optimism about the transition.
“We are proud that Chivita and Hollandia have grown into category leaders. With our talented team and UAC’s backing, the future presents exciting opportunities for continued innovation and expansion,” Weber said.
The deal is regarded as one of the most significant corporate transactions in Nigeria’s consumer goods sector in recent years, and it is expected to redefine the competitive landscape in the juice and dairy segments.
