The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its nationwide strike following a resolution meeting with the Dangote Group in Abuja.
The union had on Monday embarked on industrial action to protest what it described as the Dangote Group’s refusal to allow its employees to join NUPENG.
The strike was called off on Tuesday after parties reached an understanding at a meeting convened by the Department of State Services (DSS). The session was attended by the Ministers of Labour and Finance, alongside officials of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
It was gathered that Seyu Dantata led the Dangote management team at the talks.
Although details of the agreement were not immediately disclosed, the suspension of the strike signals a temporary relief for the petroleum sector and Nigerians concerned about possible disruptions to fuel supply.
