President Bola Tinubu on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, said Nigeria’s economy has turned the corner for good, following the success of the reforms his administration introduced over the past two years.
Speaking at the coronation of his longtime friend and political ally, Imperial Majesty Oba (Senator) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, the President assured Nigerians that the gains of the reforms would soon become evident in their daily lives.
“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said, thanking Nigerians for their patience, endurance, and sacrifices in the face of tough reforms.
The President also lauded the Olubadan for his resilience and contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, recalling his triumph over an impeachment as governor of Oyo State.
“Today is an exciting day for me, Kabiyesi. Happy birthday to you. It is also a happy day for you. As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is a great honour to witness this history unfold,” Tinubu added.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who presented Oba Ladoja with the staff of office and certificate of coronation, said the installation had put an end to disputes surrounding succession to the throne in Ibadanland. “It is a great honour to celebrate the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over and put behind us,” Makinde said.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja described his ascension to the throne as a fulfilment of destiny, expressing gratitude to God and pledging to uphold the responsibilities of his office. He thanked President Tinubu for honouring him and the people of Ibadanland with his presence.
The ceremony drew a distinguished crowd, including Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), as well as former Governors Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel.
Also in attendance were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
President Tinubu was accompanied by Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service Zacch Adedeji.
