Court jails Diddy for 50 months in sex crime conviction

Hip-hop mogul Sean Combs, popularly known as Diddy — also called P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, or Puffy — has been sentenced to 50 months in prison following his conviction in a federal sex crime case.

The sentence was handed down on Friday in Manhattan by Judge Arun Subramanian, who condemned Combs’ years of abuse.

“You abused them physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” Subramanian said during the nearly six-hour hearing. “Why did it happen for so long? Because you had the power and resources to keep it going, and because you didn’t get caught. A meaningful sentence is needed to protect the public from further crimes.”

The 55-year-old music executive was found guilty of prostitution-related charges after a two-month trial marked by harrowing testimony about his violent and disturbing private life.

While prosecutors sought more than 11 years behind bars, and federal guidelines recommended five to six years, the court settled on just over four years. The punishment was still significantly harsher than the 14-month, time-served sentence his defense team had argued for.

Combs pleaded for leniency, telling the court:
“My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will forever have to carry. I’m not this larger-than-life person, I’m just a human being. I got lost in excess, I got lost in my ego. I beg for another chance.”
