The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested popular Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, better known as Pretty Mike, alongside more than 100 other individuals during a midnight raid on a suspected drug party in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Sunday, describing the operation as part of an ongoing crackdown on illicit drug activities across the state.
According to Babafemi, NDLEA operatives stormed Proxy Night Club, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, following credible intelligence about a drug-themed event taking place at the venue.
He revealed that undercover officers had been deployed to monitor the club from 11 p.m. on Saturday, before a full-scale raid was executed around 3 a.m. Sunday. “Over 100 suspects, including the club owner, Pretty Mike, were arrested and taken into custody for screening. Cartons of illicit substances such as Loud and laughing gas were recovered from both the suspects and the club’s store,” Babafemi said.
The NDLEA spokesperson added that the Lagos raid was one in a series of coordinated operations aimed at dismantling major drug networks in the state.
Just days earlier, on October 17, NDLEA operatives apprehended a mother of two, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, at her Lekki residence. Effiong was described as a major distributor of high-grade cannabis strains — Canadian Loud and California Loud — across Lekki, Ajah, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and VGC. About 500 grams of the drugs were recovered during the raid.
In another operation on October 23, NDLEA officers raided the Solomade Estate home of Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe in Ikorodu, seizing 275 litres of skuchies — a dangerous cocktail made from black currant drink, cannabis, and opioids.
Similarly, at the Seme border axis, two suspects were intercepted: Jacob Ojugbele, caught with 55kg of skunk at Ashipa, Badagry, and Amusa Oluwabukola, found with 121.3 litres of skuchies at Itoga, Badagry.
Babafemi said all suspects are currently under investigation and would face prosecution where necessary. He reaffirmed the agency’s determination to curb drug abuse and trafficking, urging nightclub owners and event organisers to steer clear of drug-related activities or risk losing their businesses.
“The NDLEA will continue to work round the clock to dismantle drug cartels and disrupt their distribution channels,” Babafemi stated.
