Brigade commander survives ambush as troops repel terrorists in Borno

Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade survived a heavy ambush by terrorists near Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, while returning from a routine patrol along the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

The patrol team, led by the Commander of the 25 Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, included soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). They came under intense insurgent fire but fought through the ambush with what the Army described as “superior firepower,” forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.

Despite the successful counter-offensive, two soldiers and two CJTF operatives were killed in action. The Nigerian Army commiserated with the families of the fallen personnel, describing them as heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.

The Army also dismissed circulating reports claiming that the Brigade Commander had been abducted during the encounter, urging the public to disregard what it called “fake news.”

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM), praised the troops for their bravery, resilience, and sacrifice, noting that their actions reflect the unwavering commitment of Nigerian forces operating in one of the country’s most dangerous conflict zones.

The statement was issued on 15 November 2025 by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations.
