DSS arrests suspected major arms supplier in Plateau, uncovers weapons workshop

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected key arms manufacturer and supplier, Musa Abubakar, believed to be linked to armed groups operating in Plateau State and other parts of northern Nigeria.

Abubakar was arrested on 12 November 2025 following what security sources described as precise and credible intelligence. According to a DSS source, the suspect has confessed to producing and distributing high-caliber weapons and ammunition to criminal groups responsible for violent attacks in Plateau and surrounding regions.

His arrest came after a targeted raid on an alleged weapons-manufacturing workshop in the Mista Ali community of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State. Security personnel reportedly recovered Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components, chemicals and various equipment used in fabricating arms.

“He was apprehended red-handed with materials used for making IEDs and other weapons,” the source said, noting that all recovered items have been taken into custody.

The breakthrough comes days after the DSS recaptured Abdulazeez Obadaki, popularly known as Bomboy, a Kuje Prison escapee accused of masterminding the attacks on the Owo Catholic Church and a Deeper Life Church.

The agency’s recent operations, including multiple arrests, have been described as part of a renewed effort to dismantle terror networks and curb escalating violence in the North. The DSS recently confirmed arresting nine high-profile suspects linked to killings in Plateau and Benue states.

Among those apprehended is 46-year-old Timna Manjol of First Baptist Church, Mangu LGA, Plateau State, who has already pleaded guilty to two of four counts, including illegal possession of firearms, in case FHC/ABJ/CR/451/2025.

The DSS says the latest arrest underscores its commitment to combating terrorism and strengthening national security.
