An air force jet has reportedly crashed in a community in Borgu LGA of Niger State.
Lapai TV, an online television network based in the state, shared a video of the incident on its Facebook page on Saturday, showing the aftermath of the crash.
According to the report, the two pilots on board managed to eject from the aircraft before it went down near Karabonde community. The crash was said to have been caused by a mechanical fault.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
This crash adds to a series of air mishaps involving NAF aircraft over the years.
In 2023, a NAF trainer aircraft went down in Makurdi, Benue State. Although no fatalities were recorded, both pilots sustained injuries and were hospitalised.
In 2021, a fighter jet deployed for anti–Boko Haram operations lost radar contact and later crashed in Borno State.
Another NAF aircraft crashed in Kaduna in 2017, killing a pilot instructor, according to then spokesperson Olatokunbo Adesanya.
In 2015, a Dornier-228 aircraft with call sign NAF030 crashed into Ribadu Cantonment (Old NDA) in Kaduna, claiming the lives of all seven personnel on board.
