The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigerian security agencies to support ongoing security and counter-terrorism operations across the country.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the delivery in a post on X on Tuesday, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to combat security threats.
The development comes in the wake of a Christmas Day airstrike reportedly carried out by the US against Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements in Sokoto State. Following the strike, US President Donald Trump warned of further military action against extremist groups accused of targeting Christians.
In October 2025, Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing allegations of widespread persecution of Christians. He also described the country as “disgraceful” and threatened military intervention if the government continued to “allow the killing of Christians.”
According to AFRICOM, the latest delivery is aimed at enhancing Nigerian forces’ counter-terrorism and security operations and aligns with a broader US strategy to deepen operational cooperation with partners in West Africa.
Nigeria has experienced persistent attacks by armed groups in recent years, particularly in the North-East and North-West regions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government has not issued an official statement on the latest US military support.
