The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has begun an investigation into the death of a 27-year-old woman, Esther Akwaji, who reportedly died while visiting her boyfriend in Abuja.
Esther, a resident of Nasarawa State, was said to have visited her family in the FCT and left home on January 21 to go to a bank in the Dei-Dei area but never returned.
Family members were later contacted by a man who called using her phone and identified himself as her boyfriend. He claimed that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for them to eat. According to him, she suddenly began vomiting while they were eating.
He further alleged that he rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by doctors. The man reportedly fled the hospital shortly afterward and has since remained unreachable.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the police have commenced a full investigation. She added that the body has been deposited for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspect.
