Lagos Police arrest suspect behind bomb threats to Ikeja, Ikorodu schools

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem, identified as the mastermind behind recent bomb threat messages sent to schools in Ikeja GRA and Ikorodu.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Moshood Jimoh, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the Command’s recent achievements at the Police Headquarters in Ikeja. According to him, the suspect was arrested in the Okota area of Lagos following intensive investigations.

Police said that at about 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported receiving threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unknown number, alleging that explosive devices had been planted within their school premises.

In response, the Command immediately deployed operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) and other tactical teams to the schools. No explosive devices were found, and the schools were subsequently declared safe.

Investigations later led to the arrest of Chukwem-Nenyem, who was traced as the sender of the messages. Although he claimed to have lost his phone in November 2025, police confirmed that he continued to receive calls on the same line during the period the threats were issued, and the SIM card was recovered from him.

“This individual acted alone and deliberately attempted to cause panic among parents and school authorities. He will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” CP Jimoh stated.

The Commissioner also announced the strengthening of the School Protection Squad (SPS) across Lagos East, West and Central districts, with headquarters in Ikorodu, Igando and Lagos Island, respectively.

Additionally, CP Jimoh disclosed the deployment of the Eko-Strike Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and a newly established Nightlife Patrol Squad to enhance security around entertainment centres, hotels and recreational facilities across the state.

In a related development, police operatives arrested three suspected vandals for removing 154 electronic reflective markers from the Third Mainland Bridge. The suspects have been charged to court.

Reassuring residents, the CP said Lagos remains safe, urging citizens, investors and visitors to continue their lawful activities without fear, while commending officers of the Command for their dedication and commitment to public safety.
