A song cut short: 25-year-old singer Nanyah dies after snakebite on her bed in Abuja

Ifunanya Nwangene, a 25-year-old Abuja-based singer popularly known as Nanyah, has tragically passed away after suffering a snakebite at her residence in the early hours of the morning.

Nanyah, a gifted classical, jazz, RnB and soul vocalist with a growing presence in Abuja’s music scene, was said to have been bitten by a snake at her home. Following the incident, she reportedly made desperate efforts to save her life, rushing herself to two different hospitals in search of urgent medical care.

However, she was allegedly unable to receive the treatment she needed due to the unavailability of anti-venom at the hospitals she visited. Sources say she went from one facility to another, but none had the life-saving medication required.

Reports also indicate that this was not the first time a snake had been sighted in or around her residence.

News of her death has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with fans and fellow creatives mourning the loss of a young talent gone too soon. While some online users speculated about supernatural causes, no evidence has been provided to support such claims.

As of the time of this report, no official statement has been issued by health authorities or the police, and it remains unclear whether a formal investigation has been launched.

Nanyah’s sudden passing has reignited conversations about Nigeria’s fragile emergency healthcare system, particularly the alarming lack of essential drugs like anti-venom in hospitals — even within the Federal Capital Territory. Her death stands as a painful reminder of the human cost of systemic healthcare failures.
