Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has revealed that at least 75 Muslims were killed during coordinated attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area for resisting attempts by extremists to impose a radical doctrine on them.
The governor disclosed this on Wednesday night while addressing residents during a condolence visit to Kaiama. He described the killings as a brutal and deliberate assault on peaceful worshippers who refused to compromise their beliefs.
According to Abdulrazaq, the attackers targeted the victims because they rejected the demands of violent extremists seeking to spread what he called a strange and dangerous ideology in the area.
He condemned the attacks and announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to the affected communities under a counter-offensive operation codenamed Operation Savannah Shield to flush out the terrorists and prevent further violence.
The governor expressed condolences to the families of the victims and to the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Omar Mu’azu (Bagidi Kiyaru IV), assuring residents that the state government is working closely with security agencies to restore peace and protect lives.
