Shock and grief have trailed the death of popular gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele and three members of his crew, who were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death, noting that no visible signs of violence were found on the bodies.
The deceased were identified as Joseph Sanya, Itunu Ogundele, and a blogger, Matthew Awosanya, also known as JoesTv. The group had reportedly stayed overnight at the studio after ministering at the second day of a three-day birthday praise programme organised by a female gospel artiste, Olanireti Akinbola, on Tuesday, February 3.
According to police sources, the music session ran late into the night, prompting the artistes to sleep over at the studio. Their bodies were discovered unresponsive the following morning.
Confirming the incident, Lagos Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said the case was reported on Wednesday, February 4, by the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, husband of the celebrant. He told police that he left the artistes in the studio after buying food for them and went home.
Adebisi explained that Akintayo returned to the studio around 11 a.m. the next day and discovered the door locked from the inside. After forcing it open with help, the bodies of the four individuals were found.
She added that detectives visited the scene, documented evidence, and have commenced a full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice on social media, with colleagues and friends of the deceased urging authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
