Lagos to prosecute 75 arrested in coastal road clean-up raid

The has announced plans to prosecute 75 suspected miscreants arrested along the during a recent clean-up and enforcement operation.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, , disclosed this in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday. He said the arrests were made on Wednesday during intensified late-night operations targeting identified black spots along the corridor.

According to Wahab, the suspects—68 males and seven females—were apprehended during a raid that began around 10 p.m. He added that substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered at the scene.

Wahab also revealed that an officer of the Lagos State Environmental Task Force, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, was violently attacked by hoodlums during the operation and sustained a serious head injury. The officer is currently receiving medical treatment.

He warned that attacks on law enforcement personnel performing lawful duties would not be tolerated, stressing that all suspects arrested would face the full weight of the law.

The state government said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations, in line with relevant state laws on environmental offences, public nuisance, drug-related crimes, and assault.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring order, Wahab noted that the operation was part of broader efforts to rid public spaces of criminal elements and ensure safety along the coastal corridor, particularly sections currently undergoing construction and expansion.

Officials said the raid aligns with the state’s zero-tolerance stance on street crime and environmental violations, aimed at keeping Lagos safe and economically vibrant.
