‘It’s fake news’: Presidency dismisses viral claim of plot to poison Tinubu

The Presidency has refuted a viral video alleging that a chef at the Presidential Villa was arrested over a purported plan to poison President Bola Tinubu.

The video, widely circulated on social media, claimed that security operatives detained a member of the Villa’s kitchen staff following intelligence reports of suspicious activities related to food preparation in restricted areas of Aso Rock.

Reacting to the allegation, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the report as entirely false.

In a statement issued on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Onanuga described the video as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard it.

“No Aso Rock kitchen staff was arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu. Please ignore this fake news being disseminated by this video,” he wrote on X.

The claim surfaced months after reports that some military personnel were arrested over an alleged plot to overthrow the Tinubu administration.
