Troops strike Turji’s hideouts, neutralise scores of bandits

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised dozens of armed bandits in the camp of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji during a coordinated offensive in parts of the North-West.

The operation targeted hideouts in Fakai community, spanning Shinkafi and Isa Local Government Areas of Zamfara and Sokoto states.

Security sources said the mission, led by the 8 Division Strike Force in Sokoto, began in the early hours of March 20, focusing on Turji’s camp deep within the Kagara Forest.

During the advance, two combat support vehicles reportedly developed mechanical faults near Maberaya village in Isa LGA, causing a temporary pause in troop movement.

At that point, heavily armed bandits launched an ambush from elevated positions within the forest. However, troops responded swiftly with superior firepower, killing several of the attackers in the ensuing gun battle.

Three soldiers and one operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) sustained injuries during the clash and were evacuated to the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto for treatment.

Meanwhile, security officials have dismissed reports claiming that over 150 bandits died in a boat mishap in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State, describing the account as false.

Authorities noted that the river in the area is currently not navigable, making such an incident unlikely.
