Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed circulating claims that he intends to step aside from active politics, describing the reports as false and deliberately misleading.
In a statement shared by his media aide, Paul Ibe, on X, Atiku said he had not held any recent meetings with African Democratic Congress (ADC) stakeholders at the national level. His only recent engagement was with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State.
“Atiku Abubakar has not, in recent times, held any such meeting with ADC stakeholders at the national level. The only recent engagement he had was with stakeholders of the ADC in Adamawa State last Thursday,” the statement said.
He emphasized that a decision as significant as retiring from politics would never be communicated through unofficial channels or third-party sources.
“An issue as fundamental as exiting active politics cannot, and would never, be communicated through rumours, faceless sources, or third-party fabrication. Such a decision, if ever taken, would be formally conveyed through the Atiku Media Office,” he added.
Atiku described the social media reports as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at creating confusion, slowing momentum, and misleading the public. He alleged that the narrative was being driven by those uncomfortable with the current political direction.
He urged his supporters, ADC members, and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard the reports and remain focused on collective political efforts.
