The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed readiness to partner with Finland to advance infrastructure, agriculture, and sustainable urban development in Abuja.
Wike made this known on Tuesday while receiving the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sanna Selin, during a courtesy visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation. The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to deepening ties and exploring technical partnerships aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope agenda.
The Minister noted Abuja’s rapid urban expansion and ongoing infrastructure drive, emphasizing the FCTA’s willingness to tap into Finland’s expertise in key sectors such as smart city technology, green energy, and agriculture to sustain growth.
He also underscored the administration’s commitment to security, assuring the diplomatic community of a safe and enabling environment for international collaboration.
A major focus of the discussions was the modernization of the FCT’s waste management system. Wike invited capable Finnish firms to engage with the administration, describing efficient waste management as a critical priority.
In response, Ambassador Selin reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to strengthening relations with Nigeria, pointing to recent progress, including a Memorandum of Understanding on digitalization and innovation. She highlighted Finland’s global leadership in digital technology, water management, and circular economy solutions, expressing optimism that such expertise could be replicated in Abuja through concrete partnerships.
The engagement signals a growing momentum in Nigeria–Finland relations, with both sides exploring opportunities to boost trade, innovation, and sustainable urban development.
