Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has declared the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, expressing confidence in its ability to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.
In a post shared on X on Saturday, Atiku described the ADC as a party grounded in strong ideals, solid structure, and determination to challenge what he called a “failing” APC government.
He also revealed that he recently hosted ADC stakeholders from Adamawa State at his Abuja residence, describing the meeting as encouraging. During the visit, he urged the party’s new state leadership to prioritise unity, reconciliation, and inclusive leadership.
Meanwhile, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that many Nigerians are eager for a change in leadership by 2027, criticising the current administration’s policies for worsening economic conditions.
Abdullahi’s remarks were in response to comments by President Bola Tinubu, who recently said he remains undeterred by rising political opposition. However, the ADC spokesperson argued that such statements show a disconnect from the everyday struggles faced by citizens.
The exchange highlights intensifying political positioning as parties begin to prepare for the 2027 elections.
