Breaking: Tinubu sacks Edun, appoints Oyedele as finance minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, leading to key changes in the nation’s economic leadership.

In a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President directed the exit of Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He is to be succeeded by Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.

Also affected by the reshuffle is Ahmed Dangiwa, who has been instructed to hand over his duties. In his place, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

All handover processes are expected to be completed by April 23, 2026.

According to Akume, the changes are aimed at strengthening governance coordination and enhancing economic delivery under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the reshuffle.

The President thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and reiterated that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet will remain ongoing.
