Gunman in custody after disrupting White House dinner, Trump safely evacuated

U.S. President was evacuated by Secret Service agents after gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington on Saturday night.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m., about 20 minutes after Trump and First Lady arrived at the Washington Hilton venue.

Also in attendance were Vice President , Defense Secretary , Secretary of State , and House Speaker , alongside other top officials and media figures.

According to law enforcement sources, the suspect was intercepted at security screening points outside the ballroom. He was reportedly armed and opened fire, but was quickly subdued and taken into custody by security operatives.

President Trump later confirmed that an officer was struck at close range but was protected by a bulletproof vest. No fatalities or serious injuries were reported.

In a statement, Trump praised the swift response of law enforcement and said all attendees, including senior government officials, were safe. He added that the event would be rescheduled within 30 days.

Initially, organisers had considered continuing the gala, but it was officially cancelled before 10:00 p.m. following the security breach.

The annual event, which brings together political leaders and journalists, was also marked by protests outside the venue, with demonstrators voicing opposition to U.S. foreign policy.
