Fresh Nigeria, US airstrikes hit ISIS enclave in Borno

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), working alongside Nigerian armed forces, has launched fresh airstrikes on ISIS/ISWAP hideouts in northeastern Nigeria following the killing of senior commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.

According to the Defence Headquarters, the operation targeted terrorist enclaves in Metele, northern Borno State, after intelligence reports revealed the movement and gathering of insurgents in the area.

Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said more than 20 ISIS/ISWAP fighters were killed during the coordinated strikes. AFRICOM also confirmed that no American or Nigerian personnel were harmed in the operation.

The military described the offensive as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and eliminating safe havens across the North-East.

The latest strikes come days after Nigerian and U.S. forces reportedly eliminated Abu-Bilal al-Minuki and several of his fighters in a joint operation announced by President Bola Tinubu and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated their commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty, warning that terrorists would continue to face decisive military action nationwide.
