As activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration gather momentum, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that several landmark infrastructure projects across Abuja have been completed and are ready for commissioning.
Speaking on Thursday after an extensive inspection tour of key projects within the FCT, Wike described the completed projects as visible proof of President Tinubu’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends and accelerating development in both the city centre and satellite communities.
According to the minister, all the projects inspected were fully completed and prepared for inauguration, underscoring the administration’s focus on infrastructure renewal and improved public service delivery.
“Governance is about delivering results, and these projects are clear evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians. All the projects we inspected are 100 per cent ready for commissioning,” Wike stated.
Among the projects inspected were the Jahi-Gwarimpa Interchange, the Airport Expressway–Kuje Road, the Kuje–Gwagwalada Road, the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), and the newly redesigned Abuja City Gate.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by contractors, noting that the projects would significantly improve transportation, connectivity, and economic activities across the territory.
He particularly highlighted the impact of the Airport Road–Kuje Road and the Kuje–Gwagwalada Road, saying the projects have drastically reduced travel time between Abuja city centre and surrounding satellite towns.
“You can now drive from the city to Kuje in less than 25 minutes. This is what governance should be about—making life easier for the people and ensuring that development reaches every part of the territory,” he said.
Wike also praised the transformation of the Abuja City Gate, describing it as one of the signature projects of the administration and a major addition to the capital city’s aesthetics.
“We are very happy, particularly with the City Gate. Anyone coming into Abuja will immediately appreciate the beauty and identity of the capital city. It is a landmark project that showcases the ongoing transformation of the FCT,” he added.
The minister disclosed that the commissioning exercise is expected to commence next week, subject to the final approval and schedule of the Presidency.
He revealed that projects such as the Outer Southern Expressway extension and the Airport Road–Kuje Road are among those proposed for early commissioning, while other completed projects will be inaugurated by senior government officials on behalf of President Tinubu.
“It is a comprehensive programme and Mr. President may not be able to personally commission all the projects. The Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the First Lady and other senior officials will participate in the exercise,” Wike explained.
The minister further announced plans to flag off additional strategic road projects, including the Tunga Madaki–Zuba Road and other routes being executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), stressing that the FCT Administration remains committed to sustaining its aggressive infrastructure development drive.
Wike called on the media to help showcase the achievements of the Tinubu administration within the FCT, arguing that the scale of ongoing development reflects the government’s determination to modernise Nigeria’s capital city and improve the living conditions of residents.
“You have seen the transformation yourselves. The media should help tell the story of what is happening in Abuja. These projects are changing both the city centre and the satellite towns, and residents are already beginning to feel the impact,” he said.
He also commended contractors for adhering to project timelines and maintaining quality standards, expressing confidence that the completed projects would further stimulate economic growth, enhance mobility, and improve the overall quality of life for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
