Ogun Police foil plot to kidnap Chinese national, arrest two suspects

The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping of a Chinese national and arrested two suspected conspirators linked to a plot to demand a ₦50 million ransom from the victim.

The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended by operatives of the Obalende Police Division on June 9, 2026, following intelligence reports of an impending abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer indicated that the suspects were finalising plans to kidnap the foreign national and extort a ransom of ₦50 million.

Acting swiftly on the information, the DPO mobilised officers, including members of the division’s surveillance team, to the identified location where the suspects were intercepted and arrested before the plot could be executed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to abduct the Chinese national for financial gain. Further findings showed that Onwuemena, who worked as an interpreter and driver within the victim’s company, allegedly used his position and access to facilitate the planned crime.

Police investigations also uncovered the involvement of another accomplice who is currently on the run. The command said efforts are underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigators continue to unravel the full network behind the conspiracy.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, said their proactive action prevented what could have become a serious kidnapping incident.

He also stressed the importance of timely intelligence and community collaboration in combating crime, assuring residents and members of the business community that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and the protection of lives and property.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information on suspicious activities to security agencies to enhance public safety across the state.
