Tinubu commissions Kuje road, vows to complete inherited projects

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the newly completed Federal Highway 105 linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje Township in Abuja, declaring that his administration is committed to completing inherited projects rather than abandoning them.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, Tinubu described the six-lane dual carriageway as another fulfilment of the promises made under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We are not just commissioning a road; we are keeping a promise. My administration does not inherit problems to abandon them. We inherit challenges to solve them,” the President said.

Tinubu recalled that the road, awarded in 2022, had been abandoned and had become a major source of hardship for residents due to traffic congestion, dust and flooding. He said his administration revived the project through strong political will and compensation payments to affected communities.

According to him, the road will reduce travel time, ease congestion, improve access to markets, stimulate economic activities and accelerate the development of satellite towns around Abuja.

“True democracy must be felt at the grassroots. It must be felt in Kuje and by every Nigerian,” he stated.

The President urged residents, developers and business owners to fulfil their civic responsibilities by paying taxes, ground rents and other statutory fees to support the delivery of more infrastructure projects nationwide. He also called on community leaders and youths to protect the road and its facilities from vandalism.

Earlier, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, described the project as one of the most challenging undertaken by the administration, noting that work had stalled despite being awarded in February 2022 at a cost of over N54 billion.

He said the road, once a death trap and a haven for criminal activities, was revived following appeals from traditional rulers and residents during consultations across the six area councils.

“It was a very difficult road. At a point, there was no contractor on site, but we made a commitment to restore hope to the people and ensure its completion,” Wike said.

The minister commended the contractor, Arab Contractors, for delivering the project and announced that President Tinubu is expected to return in July to commission the ongoing Kuje-Gwagwalada dual carriageway.

Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the road as a landmark achievement that reflects the administration’s commitment to improving connectivity, boosting economic growth and enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, with several infrastructure projects being inaugurated across the Federal Capital Territory. :::
