Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, during a military operation against bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources disclosed that the rescue was carried out under Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, an intelligence-led offensive launched in Matazu and neighbouring communities following the abduction of the retired general and members of his family.
According to the sources, troops conducting a search-and-rescue mission traced the kidnappers to Tunga village, where they engaged the armed bandits in a fierce confrontation.
Under sustained military pressure, the bandits reportedly fled the area. However, before escaping, the criminals allegedly shot Mrs. Abubakar and abandoned her at the scene.
“She was rescued with gunshot injuries. Troops administered first aid at the scene and immediately evacuated her for urgent medical treatment,” a military source said.
The military said the victim was stabilised by soldiers before being transferred to a medical facility for further treatment and recovery.
Security sources further revealed that troops have intensified follow-up operations across the area and are currently tracking the fleeing bandits and suspected kingpins believed to be behind the abduction and attack.
Military authorities stated that Operation CLEAN SWEEP III remains ongoing and will continue until all criminal hideouts within the area are dismantled and those responsible for the crimes are apprehended and brought to justice.
The operation forms part of broader efforts by security forces to curb banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
