Sanwo-Olu orders emergency waste clearance across Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation operations across the state following growing concerns over heaps of refuse littering major roads and communities.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor ordered relevant agencies and service providers to work round the clock to clear waste backlogs and restore cleanliness across affected areas.

The state government acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the accumulation of refuse and assured residents that efforts were underway to address the situation. Additional resources have been deployed to improve waste collection and disposal, while the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), and other agencies have been directed to intensify their operations.

Akosile described the challenge as temporary, noting that significant progress has already been made in several locations. He appealed to residents to remain patient as the government implements measures aimed at restoring a clean and healthy environment across the state.
