Police arrest suspected armed robber with human body part, guns in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber, Samson Onilewaji, after recovering a suspected human body part, firearms, and several items believed to have been stolen during robbery operations.

The arrest was made during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, where police intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants. During a search of the vehicle and its passengers, officers found the suspect in possession of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a Point of Sale (POS) terminal machine, and five ATM cards.

According to the police, the suspect confessed to recently robbing three individuals of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal machine and ATM cards. Efforts are currently underway to identify and contact the victims so their recovered property can be returned.

The Command said investigations have also commenced to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, the circumstances surrounding its possession, and its intended use. Police are further intensifying efforts to track down other suspected members of the criminal gang linked to the suspect.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and other criminal activities across the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in preventing crime and improving public safety.

The Command also encouraged members of the public to report emergencies or share useful information through its dedicated emergency lines.
