Troops neutralise two Lakurawa terrorists, recover arms in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a successful offensive operation in Kebbi State.

The operation, carried out on Friday, June 27, 2026, in the Sabarumawa axis of the state, was based on credible intelligence that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists to thwart the planned assault.

The statement said the terrorists ran into the ambush and were engaged in a fierce gun battle. The troops’ superior firepower overwhelmed the attackers, leading to the neutralisation of two of the terrorists, while others escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds.

Following the encounter, troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.

The military described the operation as another significant blow against the Lakurawa terrorist group, reaffirming that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West.

The Joint Task Force also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations and enhance security across the region.
