Former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu’s former Special Assistant, Professor Dapo Thomas, has revealed why the president rarely reads prepared speeches during public events.
In excerpts from his autobiography, Lagos Boys and Lagos Politics, due for launch on July 9, 2026, Thomas said Tinubu would carefully review and edit speeches with him before engagements but often chose to speak freely instead of reading the prepared text.
According to Thomas, Tinubu explained that he preferred connecting directly with his audience, describing every public event as a campaign platform where audience reactions, songs and chants played an important role.
Tinubu was quoted as saying that while prepared speeches were useful for the media, he preferred speaking directly to the people, relying on the key points already agreed upon rather than reading from a script.
