President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of the Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending abandoned infrastructure projects in Abuja.
The President announced the approval on Thursday while commissioning the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road, a more than 16-kilometre corridor linking Kado Fish Market to Dei-Dei Junction through Life Camp. He was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The approval came after residents of Kaba, Kagini and Zaudna displayed banners highlighting the poor state of access roads in their communities.
Tinubu said the completion of the Old Keffi Road reflects his administration’s resolve to deliver infrastructure that improves connectivity, boosts economic activities and extends development to underserved communities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the era of abandoned projects in the FCT was over, adding that his government identifies critical needs, provides funding and ensures projects are completed.
The President disclosed that the rehabilitation of the road followed a report by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on the deplorable condition of the strategic corridor serving Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Karmo, Idu and Dei-Dei. He commended Wike and the FCT Administration for delivering the project on schedule and praised the contractor, Lubrik Construction Company Limited, for its performance.
Tinubu also urged residents to protect public infrastructure by preventing vandalism and keeping drainage channels free of refuse.
Speaking at the ceremony, Wike said the project fulfilled a long-standing promise to residents and traders who had repeatedly appealed for the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road. He revealed that after residents of Kaba, Kagini and Zaudna appealed for a similar intervention during the event, President Tinubu immediately approved the construction of their access road.
The minister directed the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to instruct the contractor to commence work without delay, describing the approval as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to restoring hope through infrastructure development.
