Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he presented his certificate of return following his re-election.
Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:20 p.m. and proceeded to the President’s office for the closed-door meeting.
The meeting came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented Adeleke with his certificate of return.
The governor, who contested the August 15 election on the platform of the Accord, secured 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, defeating 14 other candidates. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Tinubu had earlier congratulated Adeleke on his victory, describing the result as a reflection of the confidence of Osun voters in the governor.
The President urged Adeleke to unite the people of the state and pursue growth, stability and socio-economic development during his second term.
However, the APC has rejected the outcome. Oluwole Oke, Director-General of the party’s governorship campaign committee, said the party would not hurriedly congratulate Adeleke, insisting that he did not secure the highest number of valid votes in the election.
