‘I didn’t promise to build a mosque’ – Rep Ogene clarifies

The office of Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra state, has refuted media reports claiming he promised to build a central mosque in Ogbaru, Anambra State.

According to his office, Hon. Ogene only pledged support to remove obstacles hindering the Muslim community from acquiring land for a mosque.

During his visit to Ogbeukwu on March 21, Ogene observed Iftar with the Muslim faithful and assured them of his support.

The Chief Imam, Abdulmajeed Oniyan, had expressed frustrations about acquiring land for a mosque, prompting the lawmaker to direct his staff to ensure the Muslim community benefits from empowerment programmes and to assist in removing impediments to securing land for the mosque project.

Hon. Ogene emphasized, “Our people live in the North and in the West and we are allowed to do our businesses and worship freely, so if you desire to build a place of worship, we shall assist you to do so.”

It’s worth noting that Hon. Ogene also visited the Hausa community at Kara, announcing plans to drill a borehole and provide solar streetlights, demonstrating his commitment to the area’s well-being and development.
