The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will soon inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, on Monday.
According to the NDC, its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held several meetings with the party’s National Leader and other members of the leadership as part of efforts to finalise the campaign structure.
The party said Obi and Kwankwaso had been given the authority to nominate key campaign officials, including the Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), spokesman, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director, in consultation with the party.
It said a full organogram of the campaign structure had been prepared since August and submitted to the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for their input.
“The party wishes to assure the public that as soon as we receive the inputs of our Presidential Candidate and his Vice, the NDC shall proceed to announce and inaugurate the same,” the statement said.
The NDC added that it had also proposed a campaign timetable and was awaiting the conclusion of arrangements for campaign funding and fundraising, which would be spearheaded by the candidates.
It said all funds raised would be paid into the presidential campaign account and managed by officers nominated by the candidates alongside the party’s National Treasurer.
The party explained that the inauguration of the PCC, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of Obi’s travel schedule.
The NDC also appealed to its candidates and supporters to avoid internal disputes and concentrate on the elections.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” the party said.
Meanwhile, the party directed its state and Local Government Area chairmen to begin meetings with candidates and stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of party agents for the forthcoming elections.
It said separate lists should be prepared for national assembly elections and governorship/state assembly elections.
The lists will be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including Obi and Kwankwaso, before training begins.
The party gave the state and LGA leadership two weeks to complete the exercise and submit the final lists.
It said the committee overseeing the appointment of party agents is chaired by Deputy National Chairman (South), Babatunde Alli, with Vin Martin Ilo as secretary, while Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura and the national vice chairmen of the six geopolitical zones are members.
